Coronavirus update 19th March 2020 – Devon Carers Service Delivery

We understand this is a worrying time for everyone and we would like to reassure you that we are continuing to support carers. However, some of our services may look a little different over the next few weeks as our staff may be working remotely:

Helpline – our helpline continues to stay open during the usual hours of 8am–6pm Monday-Friday and 9am-1pm Saturday.  Team members will be on hand to talk to you during these hours.

The helpline is not able to offer medical advice, if your query is concerning a medical matter, please follow the NHS advice at   Further advice is available from the Government at

If you become unwell and are worried about looking after the person you care for, please contact Care Direct on 0345 1551 007.

Webchat – chat online with one of our helpline team during office hours by clicking on the ‘Ask’ button on our website

Website – we will keep our website updated with information and guidance including local community initiatives set up to support those in need during this difficult time.

Peer Support – following advice from the Government, we have taken the decision to suspend all peer support groups until further notice.

We are concerned about the effect social isolation may have on your wellbeing, so we will be sharing ideas and tips on how you can continue to have support during this time. Click here for further information on our Peer Support service over the coming months.

If you haven’t already accessed our Peer Support in the past, now is the time to contact us.

Training – our carers are at the forefront of our concerns and in order to safeguard you and your loved ones that you care for, we all cancelling all face to face training courses until further notice. ​If you would like to access online courses please visit our online training page:

Health and Wellbeing Checks (Carers Assessments) – all planned assessments and reviews will be carried out either online or over the telephone where possible.  Home visits will only be provided on a case by case basis and will be individually risk assessed to ensure the safety of carers and staff. 

Carer Drop-ins – until further notice, no carer drop-in sessions will be held. If you require any information over the next few weeks, please look at our website or contact our helpline.

Alert Card Applications – due to current situation, there is a delay in the processing of Alert Cards.

Q – I am a volunteer, can I apply for an Alert Card?

A – I’m afraid Carers Alert Cards are only for unpaid carers only.

If you are volunteering then please speak to the organisation for which you are volunteering and they will be able to provide you with a letter or card confirming the work you are doing.
